Summary

Summary

Great debut season for Max. After a low key start when the team drew 7 out of their first 10 competetive matches, things improved when Ross Halliday, Scott Learmont and Graeme Carling all returned from injury. A run of 7 wins was then halted with a couple of defeats. One of these a loss to Morton Thistle on penaties in the League Cup final, this after Max were looking comfortable at 2-0 up mid-way through the second half. The memory of this defeat was soon forgotten when the club lifted it's first silverware when the British Legion Cup was won on penalties in a very tight final against Upper Annandale. In the South of Scotland Cup the eventual winners Gala Rovers narrowly won 1-0 at the home park in a match Max should really have won. Max had plenty of chances to score but were held scoreless for the first time during the season. After a disappointing loss to Terregles in the league the team went on an excellent run of 9 wins on the trot that saw the team reach 2 more finals and put themselves in position for a shot at winning the league title. In the Queen of the South Cup, Uppers gained revenge with a deserved 3-1 victory at Palmerston. The club secured their second cup of the season with a fine 6-1 victory at Annan over Kirkconnel in the Tayleurian Cup. On the league front a winner takes all match away to Uppers saw the Moffat team secure their second title in a row. Uppers proving to be too tough at home. All in all an excellent season. If this can be repeated again next year then we will be well satisfied, especially as it is always harder in the second season.
