The Goal of the Season for 2007-08 was decided by a vote of all players and officials at the end of the season night out. Goal 5 scored by Sean Kearney was voted the best in a very tight contest with Goal 2 scored by Mark Montgomery.
The Contenders (so far).
1. Mark Montgomery - vs Upper Annandale in the Burns Cup 22nd August 2007. An 18 yard strike whilst being marked closely by 2 defenders. Mark moved the ball to his right and caught the Uppers defenders napping by curling a precise shot high into the top right hand corner of the net.
2. Mark Montgomery - vs Upper Annandale in the League at the Holm Park on the 27th October 2007. Start of the fightback after being 2 goals down and down to 10 men. Uppers cleared the ball from a free kick and the ball broke to Mark 25 yards out. He moved onto the ball striking it cleanly. The ball never went more than 4 feet in the air and bulleted into the right hand corner of the net.
3. Steven Brown - vs Morton Thistle at Thornhill on the 3rd November 2007. Steven had moved up front after putting a hard shift in wide on the right. He was rewarded when the ball fell to him 30 yards out and without any concerns thundered a dipping shot high into the Morton net. The icing on the cake after a fine personal performance.
4. Ross Halliday - vs Morton Thistle at Keswick Centre on the 22nd February 2008. Ross Recieved the ball just outside the 18 yard box, ficking it up at the same time. He then fired a brilliant dipping volley into the top of the goal, leaving the keeper with no chance. Ross capped off a fine cup final performance with man of the match honours.
5. Sean Kearney - vs Lochmaben at Holm Park, Troqueer on the 22nd March 2008. Sean, playing his first game for the club was only on the park for 1 minute after coming on as a substitute with 30 minutes remaining. He recieved the ball close to the edge of the 18 yard box just wide of the left hand goal post thenhe neatly pushed the ball inside the defender and smashed the ball into the top right hand corner of the goal. What a debut! Goal of the Season.
6. Derek Penny - vs Morton Thistle at Holm Park, Troqueer on the 29th March 2008. Derek who had come off the bench for his first appearance for some time found the ball falling to him 40 yards out with the keeper scrambling back to goal. Without taking a touch he smashed the ball towards goal. The powerfully struck ball never went much than higher than 5 feet in the air before ripping into the back of the net.What a way to make an impression off the bench.
7. Graeme Carling - vs YMCA at Kingolm, on the 19th April 2008. Geordie collected the ball on the junction of the 18 yard line and the goal line on the right hand side of the pitch, from there he managed to skip past the challenges of 3 defenders before moving along the 6 yard line and slotting the ball past the helpless keeper. Best individual goal of the season.
8. Graeme Carling - vs YMCA at Kingolm, on the 19th April 2008. The last of Geordie's 4 goals in this game and the best team goal for some time. Scott Learmont fired a free kick from the right hand side deep into the YM's 18 yard box. Sean Kearney then volleyed the ball with his sidefoot towards the front post. Geordie then fired in after slipping past the defender at the front post. Great to watch.
9. Craig Lavan - vs Morton Thistle at Holm Park, Troqueer on the 21st April 2008. The wee man colleced the ball close to the corner flag on the left hand side about 20 minutes into the second half. He knocked the ball past the first defender and then started to move back towards the edge of the 18 yard box, he slipped the challenge of another defender before firing a powerful dipping shot past the helpless keeper.
